Therapy in Action opened its doors in 2010 in Stellenbosch at Weidenhof Street. The partners at that stage recognized the need for a multidisciplinary team approach combining the expertise of both Physio & Occupational therapy. We saw the benefit of combining our services to obtain the best results for our clients, whilst facilitating earlier return to work.
We initially honed our services in hand and work-related injuries which inadvertently led to the establishment of a therapeutic gym area comprising of a word hardening floor area, cardiovascular equipment and simulated work activities. By providing different services at the same practice we were able to improve communication, goal planning & rehabilitation outcomes. This in turn further assisted our patients by lessoning their travel time and expenses.
In June 2013 we expanded our services to Somerset West, 3A Arun Place, also making our services available to the Helderberg and Overberg districts. Our rehabilitation statistics continued to reflect promising recovery and earlier to work time frames and we were now able to filter it through to these areas.
We were fortunate to welcome a Dietitian & Psychologist to our team in association to our services. This naturally meant that we could offer a wider service provision to our clients. We also started focusing on treating more private patients especially in the area of sport injuries and chronic pain conditions. Our service provision to insurance providers and corporate clients expended and we increased our assessment expertise in work related conditions and -illnesses involving psychosocial and cognitive sequlae as well.
In 2017 we moved to larger premises at 4 Herold Street Stellenbosch. This led to Elbert de Wit (Psychologist), and Imke Oosthuizen (Speech Therapist) joining our team as Associates. The location of this practice is perfect due to plenty of space, free secure parking and walking distance from local amenities in Dorp Street. We quickly felt at home.
In Somerset West we also required more space due to our growing service provision which led to our gym area being upgraded and one more consulting rooms being added. The beginning of 2018 offered new challenges and ideas. Our team continued growing to a current total of 6 Physiotherapists, 7 Occupational therapists, 1 Practice Manager, 3 Administrators. In Association we proudly boast 2 Clinical Psychologists, a Dietitian, Speech Therapist, Wound care Sister and Orthotist and a part time Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon.
As the year approaches the halfway mark we continue to focus on the quality of our service provision whilst expanding our service provision in the surrounding regions. For further information on our services and staff members please visit our website on www.therapyinaction.co.za.
